One theory is that this is because many anime fans also enjoy the same hobbies and activities that VTubers post about including gaming and music. 

Not long after, the iconic blonde doll – Barbie – started a YouTube channel that offered interviews, pop quizzes, and even hair tutorials. In 2016, another Japanese creator by the name of Kizuna Ai started uploading videos using a cute, bubbly, and energetic avatar that grew worldwide attention and officially coined the phrase VTuber. 

The VTuber trend really took hold in the United States following the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. At this point, people were scrambling for ways to make money online and not everyone was comfortable putting themselves on display. It’s important to note, though, that not all of these feet pics are what you might expect. You may notice that many VTubers’ “feet” are in fact paws, claws, or tentacles.
